Shoonya Mudra (Mudra Of Emptiness)

Is a simple yoga gesture designed to reduce the space element (akasha) in the body? It is an hasta (hand) mudra and one of a series of therapeutic mudras believed to have healing properties. In this mudra, the tip of the middle finger is placed at the base of the thumb and the thumb gently presses on the middle finger just below the knuckle. The other three fingers stretch comfortably to the sky. The name of this mudra comes from Sanskrit shunya, which means 'emptiness', 'openness' or 'space', and mudra, which means 'gesture' or 'seal'. Shunya can also refer to the sky or heaven. As such, shunya mudra can be translated as 'heaven mudra'.
